Tammy Miles, Staff Accountant, Foster Results
Native Hoosier Tammy Miles grew up on the south side of Indianapolis, where she graduated from Manual High School. She attended IUPUI and received her degree in Accounting from Indiana University.
Tammy lives with her 14-year-old daughter, a competitive gymnast, and her 9-year-old son, a baseball player. She spends most of her spare time away from work attending the kids’ events. She loves spending time in the outdoors, a joy she learned from her father.
After graduation, Tammy took a job with a local Public Accounting firm, where she worked for a year. She took a year off to have her daughter, after which she took a position with a “Big 4 ” Accounting Agency, where she stayed for ten years.
Wanting a change from the large corporate environment, Tammy joined Foster Results in May of 2011 as a Staff Accountant. “I enjoy the small firm atmosphere compared to the much larger firm. I feel like I can be more involved with a lot more clients than I ever could have at the big agency.”
In addition to her normal functions as a staff accountant, such as managing expenses and overhead, paying bills and balancing bank accounts, and ensuring all expenses get properly invoiced to their client, with her experience as a tax accountant who performed audits for Fortune 500 companies, Tammy knows how to organize a business’s books to make them most useful for the company’s accountant come tax time.
“From me experience, I have found that there is nothing more beneficial to a business than to have their accounting accurately recorded. To accomplish this, they need to care more about their accounting than just throwing their receipts, deposit slips, bank statements, receivables, etc., into a shoe box, some thing many small businesses are guilty of. We take all the loose elements and transition them into a single QuickBooks application so that the client can actually see their receivables, payables, income and expenses in an accurate and concise format, a snapshot of how their business is doing. When you are aware of your expenses, and where your money is going, that knowledge is going to impact your bottom line.”
“In the short term, it may cost our clients a little more to have Foster Results do their bookkeeping for them, but in the long run, they will not only (hopefully) reduce their stress level, they’ll save much more money in reduced taxes, better cash flow, and lower accounting costs.”
